Our rector (pastor) Melanie has served at Epiphany since 2009. Prior to that she served at Transfiguration Episcopal Church in San Mateo. Like many in our congregation, Melanie is not a “cradle Episcopalian.” She was raised as a Roman Catholic and actually attended a Roman Catholic seminary. She ministered in several Catholic churches before being invited into an Episcopal Church where she discovered that she had finally come home. In addition to many years of parish ministry, Melanie has also served as a Campus Ministry Chaplain, a Hospital Chaplain and is a certified Chaplain for Disaster Ministry.

In her previous professional career, she spent 15 years as a Television Producer and sometimes appeared on-camera, including hosting a religious program for an NBC station. She met her (Jewish) husband when she was Executive Producer of the TV program “PM Magazine” in Washington, DC and he was the host. They have two children and she joyfully served as the presider at their son’s wedding.

Melanie serves on the Board of the Canterbury Episcopal Ministry at Stanford. She is also involved in education about and advocacy against gun violence through SAFE (Scrubs Against the Firearms Epidemic) at Stanford’s Medical School.

Her undergraduate degree is from Stanford University, and her graduate degrees are from Georgetown University, The Washington Theological Union, and the Episcopal Church Divinity School of the Pacific. Her passions include teaching, reading and international pilgrimages and travel.
